Japanese don't like muscular protagonists

This question is often asked from foreign anime fans and video gamers.
Psychologically speaking, I guess most Japanese love that a small creature beat a big creature.

It brings surprise to audience. More or less we expect surprise to all entertainments, aren't we?
If a big muscular warrior beats small monsters, it's realistic but too common. I heard that western people try to go as realistic as possible and Japanese try to go as fantastic as possible.
But both of us hope reality and fantasy at the same time. I guess we just differ in our ratio of them.
